Cooling your house with Mashrabiya!

The designers Mey kahn and Boaz Kahn have transported an ancient secret into the now with a fantastically lovely bit of interior design as a conduit.


It's an ECOoler design. It's a tile system that connects via water hose nozzles, creating a grid of essentially natural coolers that work by evaporating water.

What a fantastic Idea !! :D 

"The Mashrabiya, an architectural element that acts as mediator between the inside and the outside. This takes the form of a clay or cement brick that allows air to travel in whilst continuing to keep all manner of uninvited guests out. In the ECOoler, the Mashrabiya is molded and made into a tube system that takes another important cue from a Middle-Eastern tradition: the Jara."

How to Choose Colors for Your Rooms?

It's been ages since my last post... busy busy busy!! Here am I :D We -in Oman- got an extended weekend; celebrating His Prophet Mohammed's birthday. So, let's do some blogging :D

Well, I am always getting this question; what color should I select to paint my room/space? huummm .. 

It's not a question that can be answered by a green, red, blue, pink, brown , .... whatever!

To select a color for a paint you have to go through a process ! Let's go through these 6 steps:
1. First, Get to know your preferred colors
2. Get to know your space; which room, size, openings, type of furniture
3. Find a scheme for your space, what style do you prefer?
4. Mood of the Room! Color & style set the mood of the room. What feelings do you want to add to your room?
5. Do color hunting ! Visit paints shops, take some samples of the colors that fits the style you finalized  !  If possible try them on your wall and select the one you feel the best for your room.
6.  Once you know what color to use, decide on the sheen and finish. Paints has different sheen ! Glossy, Matt, Eggshell, Semi-gloss, High-gloss, Satin.

“Tangerine Tango” is Pantone's top color for 2012

I was  waiting for this news! but when it's been announced, I was too busy to write about it! :-/ 

The Pantone Color Institute announced the news last Friday! Pantone has named “Tangerine Tango,” a radiant red-orange, as the top color of 2012.

So, what did Eiseman said? 
"Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”


I kinda like it ! It's not an easy color to work on tho! Will revise some styles & trends of our new guest in the coming posts ..

 The dress is at the Victoria & Albert Museum’s “Power of Making”exhibit in London, the prickly garment translates the grief of lost love into a shroud that inflicts physical pain and repels human contact and sympathy. Widow is the fourth in a series of garment sculptures that explore concepts of female identity—pins have strong associations with so-called “women’s work”—and vulnerability. Look if you will, but touch at your own peril!

Recession Chair..

" Dutch designers Tjep. have reduced part of a mass produced Ikea chair to a skeletal form to evoke the receding state of the global economy.

One corner of the standard chair has been carefully sanded so that hardly any material remains.
The fragile chair can no longer support the weight of a person as, like the economy, it too is diminished."


Some people think it's a great idea. Some think it's different, and some said it's meaningless ! Few said that it is not the role of design to be political!

Yeas, I believe that " Doing things different is not the same as being creative" But this idea is very interesting for sure! Using furniture as a sculpture that evokes an idea or a statement is something I like!   I would like it more if the sanded leg was strong enough ! It's beautiful .. It can be more useful than just a show piece .. that's how we react with the recession.
